Eberhard Mfg. Co. started in 1877 in Canton, Ohio, by George W. Eberhard, focusing on hardware for the carriage and saddlery industries. The company relocated to Cleveland in 1880 but suffered a fire and merged with the Cleveland Malleable Iron Co.
