General Tools

General Tools & Instruments LLC was founded in New York City in 1922 as General Hardware Manufacturing Co., a wholesaler of hardware and specialty hand tools. In the 1920s and '30s, the company began developing its own products, and by 1937 it offered a range of exclusive proprietary items. Development of both consumer and industrial products continued to be a focus, and General became the first company to manufacture die-cast tools. During World War II, General was awarded contracts to supply machinist tools to the U.S. military and the British Purchasing Commission, and in 1946, General became a charter member of the Sears 100 Club of Craftsman tool suppliers. In subsequent decades, General expanded its product line to include precision measuring tools and other specialty hand tools. (In 1990, the company changed its name to General Tools to better reflect its product line.) The 2000s brought the acquisition of Mannix Instruments and a further expansion of the General Tools product line to include electronic testing and measurement equipment. Today, General Tools continues to forge ahead with the entrepreneurial spirit with which it was founded. More info at https://www.rockler.com/general-tools
